The nominees for the 78th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards have been announced, setting the stage for a competitive awards season. Apple TV+ emerged as a major force, with new series like “Pluribus,” “Margot’s Got Money Troubles,” and “Widow’s Bay” earning multiple nominations. Meanwhile, returning favorites such as HBO Max’s “The Pitt” continued to dominate, leading all shows with 25 nominations in the drama categories.
In the comedy arena, the race for outstanding lead actress is heating up between Lisa Kudrow (“The Comeback”) and Jean Smart (“Hacks”), both delivering acclaimed performances in their series’ final seasons. Smart has already won four Emmys for her role, while Kudrow’s previous win came in 1998 for “Friends.” “Widow’s Bay,” a horror-comedy starring Matthew Rhys, also made a strong impression with 19 nominations.
Notable snubs include “Euphoria” missing out on the top drama category despite acting nods for Zendaya and Colman Domingo, and Jeremy Allen White of “The Bear” being overlooked after two previous wins. The Canadian production “Heated Rivalry” was ineligible for Emmys, though co-lead Connor Storrie received a nomination for his “Saturday Night Live” guest spot.
The ceremony, hosted by Mariska Hargitay, will air live on NBC and stream on Peacock on Monday, September 14 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. Below is the list of major category nominees.
