In a thrilling Wimbledon semifinal that had fans on the edge of their seats, Karolína Muchová defeated Coco Gauff in a dramatic tiebreaker to secure her spot in the final. The match, which ended 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (10), was a roller coaster of emotions, with both players having match points before Muchová finally clinched the victory.
Muchová will now face compatriot Linda Nosková in an all-Czech final on Saturday. Nosková advanced by defeating Marta Kostyuk of Ukraine 6-4, 6-4 in the other semifinal.
The tiebreaker was particularly intense, with Gauff holding a match point at 9-8 but failing to capitalize on a forehand opportunity. Muchová then had her own match point, which she lost after slipping on the grass. However, she quickly regrouped and secured another match point, ultimately winning when Gauff’s forehand landed in the net.
“It was such a big fight,” Muchová said. “It was a roller coaster.”
Earlier in the tiebreaker, Muchová produced a diving forehand volley winner reminiscent of Boris Becker’s style, leaving her face down on the grass as the crowd roared. The match was played under hot conditions, with temperatures reaching 91°F (33°C) in London.
This will be Muchová’s second Grand Slam final, having lost to Iga Świątek in the 2023 French Open championship match. Despite injuries to both wrists over the past two years, she has now reached the semifinals or better at all four Grand Slams. For Gauff, this was her most successful Wimbledon, having previously only reached the fourth round three times.
The all-Czech final guarantees a third Czech champion in four years, following Markéta Vondroušová in 2023 and Barbora Krejčíková in 2024. The men’s semifinals are set to feature Jannik Sinner against Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev against Arthur Fery.
